| Other Info | Meet at 6.30 pm at the Market Place which has free parking. The town still has a large marketplace with an attractive 19th-c Gothic market cross and fountain. The market square is backed by many fine 18th-c brick and stucco houses and a magnificent colonnaded Corn Exchange. At the north end of the market stands the large brick built Victorian Wadsworth Brewery. Within the town centre are many small family run shops and businesses. Leading off the marketplace is the famous Shambles Market Hall, a bustling covered market, trading since 1835. Today Devizes has more than 500 listed buildings, situated within the quarter square mile of its town centre. Particular buildings of interest include Northgate House, the Black Swan is a fine 18th-c three-storey structure on the east side of the marketplace, also Parnella House, built in 1740 by a doctor, who decorated its front with an odd roughly carved statue of the god of medicine. Opposite the elegant Georgian Town Hall is St. Johns Alley, a narrow alleyway of lovely old timber framed buildings. Long Street has formal lines of exquisite Georgian brick and pastel coloured staccato houses. The 12th-c St. Johns Church has a handsome Norman Tower and Chancel. Opportunity to go out into RWB to take 10 images only and submit them for viewing at the Awards Presentation evening on June 20th. Hopefully it will instil and encourage careful planning and selective image taking as was the discipline when using slide film in the past.

Zoom Presentation – \\\”Talking Pictures\\\” by Chris Palmer – The Angel Hotel Function Room – 16/05/23
As the title suggests I’ll certainly be talking about my pictures, but in addition I like to think that my images ‘talk’, or communicate with the viewer. Emphasising my own philosophy of getting an image right when I shoot it, I discuss basic camera skills, camera craft, and the way I photograph when on location. I will be relating the actual taking experiences, and cover landscape, urban, monochrome, and beach photography.
