“Image Icons” Presentation – September 26th 2017

The Club were treated to an informative and entertaining presentation by Chris Bigg from the Downend Camera Club, who had previously presented to the Club. His presentation featured a large compilation of the works of many past and present photographers, some of which we were familiar with and others who were previously unheard of. A wide range of genres and subjects were covered and Chris, with his love of all things aviation, included a number of amazing aircraft images from John Dibbs.

In particular, the quality of some of the early images by photographers in the early part of the last century was astonishing and a wide variety of recording processes were illustrated. What constitutes an iconic image is a subjective and personal matter but a number of images were instantly recognisable as having been elevated to this status through widespread public recognition. The diversity of approaches and photographic styles made for an enjoyable and thought provoking evening.
