Summer Competition – October 10th 2017

Whilst the inclement weather that impacted many of the summer photo-shoot evenings reduced the number of entries, the Summer Outing to Ironbridge, which was bathed in sunshine, did provide members with some good competition submission opportunities.

Rob Slade judged the DPIs first and selected “Brunch” by Nigel Bailey as the winning entry. In the print category, the winning entry was “Coalport China museum building” by Adam Kowalczyk. The winners were then presented with the Summer Competition trophies that had been donated by Andrew Purdy, a previous Chairman of the Club.

After the tea break, Roger Smith gave an illuminating and insightful presentation on the History of Wootton Bassett in Pictures. This illustrated some of the key individuals who influenced major developments in the town and the way in which the buildings in the High Street in particular had changed over the years. He also covered such topics as utilities, schools, pubs, roads, breweries and royal events to name but a few. The Town Hall, which has its own intriguing history, houses the local museum and is a treasure trove of pictorial information and exhibits that is well worth visiting when it opens on Wednesday and Saturday mornings.
