Annual Competition Projected Images – June 8th 2021

The end of the 2020/21 season was marked by the Judging of the Annual Competition for projected images by John Tilsley from Dorchester Camera Club. John has extensive judging experience and is Chairman of the Western Counties Photographic Federation Judging Committee and is actively involved in running training seminars for would-be judges, when conditions permit. Entries were grouped into three categories; Action; Portrait and Open with a winner selected for each category and also the best overall image selected.

John’s critiques of images was detailed and thoughtful and struck a balance between emphasisng the positive aspects of each image along with some suggested actions that could be considered for enhancing its impact and presentatiAction - Afterburneron.

The Action category was won by Robert Slade with a dynamic image of a military fighter plane entitled “Afterburner”

Portrait - Just Jessica

The Portrait category challenged the judge as it contained a number of animal portraits which would not always be included in the classic definition of a portrait. The winning portrait was “Just Jessica” by Jim Bullock.

Open - Rider of the Storm

The final category of Open images featured a wide range of genres and the winning entry was “Rider of the Storm” by Adam Kowalczyk which, after some deliberation was also selected as the best overall projected image in the competition.

Battle with Cricklade Camera Club – March 3rd 2021

Our third annual battle with Cricklade CC was hosted by ourselves and conducted using Zoom.  Dave Bridges from Launceston Camera Club judged the proceedings and gave articulate and detailed feedback on each image before awarding a score out of 20 points maximum..

Both clubs fielded a strong set of 30 open subject images and half the images were viewed and critiqued before a short break and the remainder judged thereafter. By the halfway stage RWBCC held a modest lead and things were finely balanced for the second half. However RWBCC managed to outscore their opponents in the second half and achieved an aggregated score of 467 points versus 445 points for Cricklade.

Congratulations go to Jim, Dave, Tony and Rob who all submitted images that achieved the top score awarded during the evening and “Nepalese Women” by Rob Slade was judged at the best overall image.

Tri-Battle – 14 April 2015

On Tuesday, many members of the club visited Highworth Community Centre, where the annual tri-battle between Highworth, Cirencester and Royal Wootton Bassett was held.

As Highworth hosted this years battle, they made both Cirencester and us very welcome.

The judge of the evening was Eddy Lane ARPS DPAGB, who we have had the pleasure of his company many times in the past.

The final result was a very close win for Cirencester with 42 points to Highworths 41 points, with Royal Wootton Bassett coming third with 37 points.

We did managed to get a few entries that won their round, those being Adam Kowalczyk, Dave Garmont, and Linda Broadhurst, but well done to you all.

Even though we came third it was a very good evening, with excelent comments from Eddy, but then again it was not un-expected.

At the close of the evening, the chairman Bob Nunns thanked Highworth for their great evening, and invited the other two clubs to Royal Wootton Bassett next year as it is our turn to host it.

Devizes Battle – 24th March 2014

It is not long now till we have a Battle with Devizes Camera Club.

On Tuesday, the selection committee selected the images, so we are all ready to do Battle.

The Judge is Eddy Lane ARPS DPAGB AFIAP

I am sure that this is going to be a very good and hopefully a annual event.

Let the best club win, and everyone have a enjoyable evening

Club Competition Night 18th November 2014

The Club night on the 18th Nov was a club competition night with the subject of Circles. All the entries both print and digital was judged by Syd Matthews, who as always gave very good critique for the images.

I think I speak for the whole club, in saying that it was a very enjoyable night, even if you did not submit into the competition, just listening to Syd made you think and look again before pressing the shutter.

Start of the Summer Programme

Last night we started our Summer Programme, with a stroll through various area’s of Royal Wootton Basset. We all ended up at the pub, where drinks were very welcome, but they did not like the look of mine. A mixture of Orange and Coke, which in Germany is called a Spezi which is really refreshing despite the weird colour.

Enough of the drinks, lots of photo’s were taken, which is a good start for the Summer Competition.

Tri-Battle with Calne and Nonpareil Camera Clubs

On Tuesday 18th March we had a tri-battle with Calne and Nonpareil camera clubs. Although we did not win, but came a very close 2nd, everyone there thought that it was a extremely enjoyable evening. There was only one person who had a difficult task to do and that was the Judge.

Even though this was the first time that we had asked Nonpareil to participate in the tri-battle, and this was the first time that they had competed in a tri-battle, I thought that their images was amazing, along with Calne’s. I was so lucky that I did not have to judge as we all would have got the same points.

The final score was 1st Nonpariel, 2nd Wootton Bassett, 3rd Calne.

Comp 5

Competition 5 was Judged on 4th March 2014, by Mike Curtis. Although his marking was a little harsh at time, the constructive comments I thought were very good. It certainly gave you something to think about, and if taken on board might improve club competition entries.

All in all I thought that it was a very enjoyable evening, with lots of chat over a hot drink, in between the prints and digital marking.

With over 4 competitions completed, it is very close this year in both the Prints and Digital categories.

I have put the results of Comp 5 in the members area.
