Open Competition #3 – February 13th 2018

The Club welcomed Michael Curtis ARPS from Brinkworth, to judge our third competition of the season. Mike firstly gave a brief introduction covering his experience in photography, which included working for Nikon during part of his career.

As customary, the print entries were judged first and it was soon evident that Mike had a sharp eye for detail and had studied the prints very carefully, on a number of occasions, before deciding his placements. He commented on compositional and technical aspects of the images as well as their impact and interpretation. The winning print was an unusual picture entitled “White Peacock” by Roger Woodward

After tea break, Mike brought his forensic-like analysis to the digitally projected images, providing detailed feedback on each image along with some ideas on making the image even more impactful. The winning DPI was a captivating image of the interior architecture of “Exeter Cathedral” submitted by Nigel Bailey
